Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common heating, cooling, and comfort questions we hear from homeowners and businesses across the Chicagoland area.
How often should I have my furnace serviced?
We recommend a furnace tune-up once a year, ideally in the fall before heating season. Annual maintenance catches small issues early, keeps your system running efficiently, and can extend the life of your equipment significantly. It's one of the best investments you can make in your home comfort.
How often should I have my air conditioner serviced?
A/C systems should be serviced once a year, typically in the spring before cooling season. A tune-up includes cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, testing electrical components, and making sure the system is ready for summer demand.
How do I know if my furnace needs to be replaced?
Common signs include frequent breakdowns, uneven heating, rising energy bills, or the system is 15–20+ years old. A cracked heat exchanger is a safety issue that often means it's time to replace. We'll always give you an honest assessment — sometimes a repair makes more sense, and sometimes replacement is the better investment. We'll walk you through your options without pressure.
How do I know if my air conditioner needs to be replaced?
Signs your A/C may need replacing include the system being 10–15+ years old, frequent and costly repairs, refrigerant leaks (especially older R-22 systems), poor cooling performance, or unusually high electric bills. We'll diagnose the problem and give you honest options.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency HVAC service?
Yes. We have 24/7 service availability — including nights, weekends, and holidays. If your heat goes out in a snowstorm or your A/C fails on a hot summer day, call or text us at (847) 516-8221 and we'll get to you as quickly as possible.
How long does an HVAC installation take?
Most furnace or air conditioner replacements can be completed in a single day. More complex jobs — like adding ductwork, upgrading electrical service, or installing a full system from scratch — may take two days or more. We'll give you a clear timeline before we start any work.
What brands do you install and service?
We commonly install Rheem, Goodman, and Durastar equipment, and we service and repair all major brands including Carrier, Trane, Lennox, York, Bryant, American Standard, and more. If you have a brand not listed, give us a call — we can almost certainly help.
How long does a water heater last, and when should I replace it?
Tank water heaters typically last 8–12 years. Signs it's time to replace include rust-colored water, rumbling noises, leaks around the base, or inconsistent hot water. If yours is over 10 years old, it's worth having it inspected — a proactive replacement is much less disruptive than an emergency one.
How often should I change my furnace filter?
For standard 1-inch filters, every 1–3 months is a good rule of thumb — more often if you have pets, allergies, or heavy dust. Thicker media filters (4–5 inch) can last 6–12 months. A dirty filter restricts airflow, which strains the system and reduces efficiency. When in doubt, check it monthly.
What is a mini-split system and is it right for my home?
A mini-split (ductless) system heats and cools a space without needing ductwork. They're great for additions, garages, bonus rooms, sunrooms, or any area that's hard to condition with your main system. They're efficient, quiet, and provide both heating and cooling from one unit. Contact us and we can walk you through whether a mini-split is the right fit for your situation.
